An Eagle in the blue sky

By Rodney Rountree
written November 2013
(Lyric #1 from "Long Drive Compositions")
Listen to the song

Thereís an eagle in the blue sky
A mountain top ahead
Iím driving down this highway
Looking for a place to lay my weary head

Mile after mile slip behind me
Still I can get no rest
The road sure can be a lonely place
When thereís nowhere you need to be

I just left Carolina behind me
And am heading up 95
The sun has long since set
And my coffee is getting cold

Thereís a plane up in the dark sky
And the moon is hanging low
Iím driving down this highway
Looking for a place to lay my weary head
Mile after mile slip behind me
And still I get no rest
